AP/ DUAL CREDIT OVERLAY

Dual Credit 

Olney High School offers several pathways for students to earn college credit while in high school.  Olney High School has partnered with both Angelo State University and the Ranger College to provide students with dual credit options. Courses are  offered on campus either taught in person or online. 

Dual credit courses are taught on OHS camps and/ or ASU university professors if taken online.  The grades earned from dual credit courses will be posted on both the student’s college transcript and the high school transcript.  There are tuition fees associated with dual credit courses that vary depending on the university or college.  

Angelo State University

ANGELO STATE

  • BIO1107- AP BIOLOGY (4 HOURS)
  • BIO2323- ANATOMY (4 HOURS)
  • HIST1301- US HISTORY (3 HOURS) ONLINE COURSE
  • POL2305- FEDERAL GOVERNMENT (3 HOURS) ONLINE COURSE

ASU Payment 

  • Courses are $50 per credit hour. A 3-hour course is $150.
  • The fall 2024 payment deadline is Thursday, September 19th at 5:00 p.m.  Student bills will not become available until the second week of class due to registration adjustments and FAST processing.  

  • Through the Financial Aid for Swift Transfer (FAST) program, educationally disadvantaged students may qualify for dual credit at no cost to the student.
  • A payment guide is available on our Dual Credit Payment and Installment Guide website.
  • An installment plan is available for a $30 fee.
  • Students who do not pay in-full or set-up the payment plan and pay the first installment by the 18th class day will be dropped from their class(es).

Steps to Apply

FIRST STEP: Complete the online application

  • Fall 2024 Dual Credit Application

SECOND STEP

Complete the Parent/ Guardian Agreement Form

Submitting this form electronically is the fastest way to complete this step. However, a paper version of the agreement form is available. Please print, sign and return this form to your high school counselor.

THIRD STEP

  • Ensure you are college ready by taking the TSI or submitting exempted scores via ACT/SAT/PSAT.

Payment Information

For the 2024-2025 academic year the cost of tuition per credit hour is $55 per semester credit hour. Addional fees are explained in the link.

Steps on Registering to Ranger College

  • Submit an application for admission online. (it is critical that they use their social security number when applying).

ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP)

The Advanced Placement (AP) program was created by the College Board in 1955 to provide students with a pathway to earn college credit while in high school. At Olney High School, we offer 6 AP courses that span all subject areas. AP courses are rigorous, college level courses that align with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the College Board standards and skills.  Students may earn college credit by taking the AP exam in May and scoring a 3 or higher. The benefits of taking AP coursework include:

  • Getting a head start on college-level workImproving critical thinking and writing skills.
  • Developing the study habits necessary for tackling rigorous coursework.
  • Personalize learning by studying subjects of interest in greater depth and detail.
  • Save money by earning college credit in high school.
